Reclaimed Skateboard Decks
One of the defining materials of Blackburl Works.
Discarded Canadian maple skateboard decks are transformed into vibrant laminations that reveal decades of colour beneath their worn surfaces. Every layer records a previous life before becoming part of a new object.
No two reclaimed skateboard compositions are ever identical, making every finished piece genuinely one of one.
Live-Edge Hardwood
Where appropriate, the natural edge of the tree is preserved to maintain the character of the original slab.
Rather than forcing symmetry, the live edge introduces movement and reminds us that every piece began as something living.
Figured Burls
Burls offer some of nature's most remarkable grain patterns.
Their unpredictable figure, depth, and movement make them ideal for statement pieces where the material itself becomes the focal point.
Shou Sugi Ban
Selected collections incorporate the traditional Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban, where controlled charring enhances texture, creates dramatic contrast, and celebrates the natural structure of the wood.

Rich walnut gives the set a warm, understated foundation, while carefully placed sections of recycled skateboard introduce unexpected colour and movement. Each handle reveals a different composition, creating variation without losing the visual connection between the three pieces.
Turned individually by hand, the brush, razor, and stand feature distinct profiles balanced by a consistent material language. Polished chrome hardware provides a clean contrast against the darker walnut and layered veneer.

The Afterward is a one-of-one set of four handcrafted coasters made from walnut, mahogany, maple, oak, and skateboard veneers.
Each coaster carries a different composition of intersecting hardwood fields, connected by fine lines of blue and yellow skateboard veneer. The grain, colour, and direction shift from piece to piece, creating four individual objects that belong to the same larger composition.
The restrained use of colour moves through the set like a continuous thread—appearing, disappearing, and changing direction as the coasters are rearranged.
Designed to be used individually and experienced together, no two coasters are alike.

The Horizon is a one-of-one serving board inspired by the quiet rhythm of changing landscapes, where natural materials meet in flowing lines and subtle contrast.
Crafted from cherry, white oak, padauk, reclaimed skateboard veneer, and carefully placed resin details, the composition moves naturally across the board, creating depth without distraction. The warm cherry forms the foundation, while figured white oak and rich padauk establish bold, sweeping forms that are softened by fine lines of reclaimed skateboard veneer and resin.
Softly sculpted edges and a generous serving surface make The Horizon equally suited for entertaining or everyday use. Whether presenting charcuterie, artisan bread, or shared meals, the board is designed to be both functional and visually striking. Each pair reveals the striking layered construction of skateboard maple, with bold streaks of colour running the full length of the sticks. The result is a visually stunning set of drumsticks that stand out both on stage and in the studio.
Carefully turned and shaped by hand, the sticks feature a balanced profile designed for comfortable grip, smooth rebound, and responsive play. The rounded tips are shaped directly from the laminated wood, showcasing the beautiful circular colour patterns that naturally appear when skateboard layers are turned on the lathe.
