Music and craftsmanship have always shared something in common—they both reward patience, precision, and countless hours of practice.
As a drummer, I've always enjoyed experimenting with my own drumsticks. What began as a personal project to create sticks I wanted to play eventually became one of Blackburl Works' most distinctive creations. Turning recycled skateboard decks into functional drumsticks brought together three things I already loved: Creating with my hands, skateboarding, and sitting behind a drum kit.
Each pair begins life as genuine retired maple skateboard decks before being carefully laminated, hand turned, and finished into playable drumsticks that celebrate both performance and craftsmanship. Every set reveals dozens of coloured maple layers, creating patterns that can never be repeated.
Unlike mass-produced drumsticks, these are created one pair at a time. Every curve is shaped by hand to achieve a comfortable feel while showcasing the vibrant history hidden inside each skateboard. Natural variation in the coloured veneers means no two pairs will ever look exactly alike.
These drumsticks are built to be played, not simply displayed. I personally play mine on an electronic drum kit, where they retain their appearance far longer than they would on traditional acoustic cymbals and rims. While they're fully functional drumsticks suitable for any kit, electronic drums greatly reduce wear, allowing the reclaimed skateboard laminations and handcrafted finish to be enjoyed through countless hours of practice and performance.

Made to Order
Every pair of Blackburl Works drumsticks is made to order in my workshop in Fernie, British Columbia. This allows each set to be individually turned, balanced, and finished rather than pulled from inventory.
Custom diameters are available to suit your preferred playing style, whether you're after something that closely matches your favourite sticks or a completely custom feel.
If you have a preference for the colour of the reclaimed skateboard laminations, let me know when ordering. While every skateboard is unique and exact patterns can never be guaranteed, I'll do my best to select material that reflects your preferred colour palette, creating a pair that's uniquely yours before they're ever played.

Carefully turned and shaped by hand, the sticks feature a balanced profile designed for comfortable grip, smooth rebound, and responsive play. The rounded tips are shaped directly from the laminated wood, showcasing the beautiful circular colour patterns that naturally appear when skateboard layers are turned on the lathe.
