Kitchen Knives

Every Blackburl Works kitchen knife begins with exceptional steel and is completed by hand in Fernie, British Columbia. Premium Japanese blades are paired with carefully sculpted hardwood or reclaimed skateboard handles, creating one-of-one knives that balance everyday performance with refined craftsmanship.

Each handle is individually shaped to complement the character of the materials, allowing the grain, colour, and natural figure of the wood to influence the finished piece. Whether crafted from richly figured hardwoods or reclaimed skateboard maple, every handle is designed for comfort, durability, and a lifetime of use.

Built for cooks who appreciate both precision and craftsmanship, every knife is finished and assembled by hand before becoming part of the Blackburl collection. No two handles are ever identical, making every knife as individual as the person who uses it.

FAQs

Blackburl Works knives are built using premium Japanese and Damascus steel blades selected for their edge retention, durability, and everyday performance. Blade steel may vary by collection and is listed on each product page.

1

What steel do you use?

What materials are used for the handles?

2

Each handle is handcrafted from carefully selected premium hardwoods, reclaimed skateboard decks, figured burls, and other natural materials. Every piece is one of one, with unique grain, colour, and character.

How should I care for my knife?

3

Hand wash only using warm water and mild soap, then dry immediately. Never place a handcrafted knife in the dishwasher or leave it soaking in water. Periodically conditioning the handle with Blackburl Butter or another quality wood conditioner will help preserve its appearance for years to come. Knife Care

Every Blackburl Works handle is individually hand-shaped, finely sanded, and finished using a premium protective finish selected to suit the material. Rather than hiding the natural character of the wood, the finish enhances its grain, depth, and tactile feel while providing lasting protection for everyday use.
