Coasters
Protect your surfaces with handcrafted wooden coasters from Blackburl Works. Made in Fernie, British Columbia from premium hardwoods and recycled skateboard materials, every coaster is individually shaped, sanded, and finished by hand. Whether enjoyed with your morning coffee, an evening whisky, or shared around the table, each piece is designed to bring craftsmanship and functional art into everyday living.
No two Blackburl coasters are ever exactly alike. Natural wood grain, unique figure, and the vibrant layers of recycled skateboard maple ensure every coaster is a one-of-one piece that is built to be used.
A pair of handcrafted coasters shaped from padauk, ambrosia maple, and reclaimed skateboard maple. The naturally irregular live edge of the padauk forms the defining gesture of each piece, while a narrow band of layered skateboard maple creates a vivid transition between the deep red hardwood and the quieter grain of the ambrosia maple.
Emberline takes its name from the meeting point between the rich, fire-like tones of the padauk and the fine line of colour running through each coaster. The live edges remain intentionally different, giving each piece its own silhouette while preserving a clear visual relationship between the pair.
The contrast between exotic hardwood, natural edge, and reclaimed skateboard material gives the set a stronger presence than a conventional coaster. Designed for everyday use but made to remain on display, Emberline brings the material language of Blackburl into a smaller functional object for the table.
Natural variations in the hardwoods, live edges, and reclaimed skateboard material ensure that no two sets can ever be exactly alike.

The Afterward is a one-of-one set of four handcrafted coasters made from walnut, mahogany, maple, oak, and skateboard veneers.
Each coaster carries a different composition of intersecting hardwood fields, connected by fine lines of blue and yellow skateboard veneer. The grain, colour, and direction shift from piece to piece, creating four individual objects that belong to the same larger composition.
The restrained use of colour moves through the set like a continuous thread—appearing, disappearing, and changing direction as the coasters are rearranged.
Designed to be used individually and experienced together, no two coasters are alike.

The Confluence is a one-of-one coaster set handcrafted from reclaimed oak, reclaimed maple, reclaimed sapele, and layers of recycled skateboard veneer. Four distinct materials meet across each surface, forming an interlocking composition of warm hardwood grain, layered colour, and shifting orientation. The two coasters share the same material palette but arrange it differently, allowing each piece to remain individual while belonging unmistakably to the pair.
Named for the meeting of separate elements into a single form, The Confluence explores the relationship between material, direction, and contrast. Rather than using the skateboard veneer as a simple accent, the layered colour becomes part of the structure itself, intersecting with the reclaimed hardwoods to create a more complex composition.
Designed as functional objects for everyday use, each coaster is individually constructed and finished by hand. Together, they form a matched composition that can be rearranged, separated, and viewed from different orientations while retaining a shared visual language.
Variations in grain, colour, markings, and veneer layers are inherent to the reclaimed materials and are part of the character and history of each piece.
