Kasane—meaning layers or layering—takes its name from the materials brought together within the body of the mill. As the sculpted profile moves inward and outward, each layer is revealed differently, creating a composition that changes as the piece is viewed from different angles.
The exposed mechanical grinder gives the piece an old-world utilitarian character, contrasted by the contemporary use of reclaimed skateboard material. Designed for everyday use but made to remain on display, Kasane sits between functional kitchenware and a one-of-one crafted object.
