A sculptural pepper mill shaped from ambrosia maple, purpleheart, and reclaimed skateboard maple, paired with an antique-style cast metal grinding mechanism. The body is defined by three distinct materials: the natural character and irregular markings of ambrosia maple, a substantial section of deep purpleheart, and a narrow flowing reveal of colourful skateboard veneer.
Iwa—meaning rock—takes its name from the mill’s irregular, carved silhouette and substantial presence. Unlike the quieter turned profiles of the other antique mills, the undulating surface creates changing shadows and highlights, giving the piece a more tactile and sculptural character.
The purpleheart provides a strong visual anchor, while the reclaimed skateboard layers follow the carved contour of the body rather than simply decorating its surface. Ambrosia maple introduces natural variation and contrast, ensuring the composition changes as the mill is viewed from different angles.
