The Elsewhere is a one-of-one coaster set handcrafted from walnut, maple, oak, and thin lines of skateboard veneer. Across the four pieces, contrasting hardwoods are divided and reassembled into individual compositions, while narrow lines of blue and yellow veneer move through the surfaces, crossing grain, changing direction, and continuing beyond the boundaries of each piece.
Named for the idea of something existing beyond the place immediately in view, The Elsewhere explores movement, interruption, and connection. Each coaster presents a different composition, suggesting fragments of a larger form that continues outside the object itself.
Designed as functional objects for everyday use, each coaster is individually constructed and finished by hand. Together, the four pieces form a collected composition while remaining distinct objects in their own right.
Variations in grain, colour, and veneer placement are inherent to the materials and are part of the character of each piece.
