The Divide is a one-of-one coaster set handcrafted from reclaimed sapele, reclaimed oak, and layers of recycled skateboard veneer. The warm reddish tones of the sapele sit in contrast to the lighter grain of the oak, separated by a dense band of colour that reveals the layered construction of the skateboard material. A narrow strip of sapele passes through the veneer field, creating a deliberate interruption that connects the two pieces.
Named for the line that separates and connects the contrasting materials, The Divide explores the point where one surface ends and another begins. The composition is architectural and restrained, allowing the reclaimed hardwoods to remain prominent while the skateboard veneer becomes the defining gesture.
Designed as functional objects for everyday use, each coaster is individually constructed and finished by hand. Together, they form a matched composition while remaining distinct objects in their own right.
Variations in grain, colour, and markings are inherent to the reclaimed materials and are part of the character and history of each piece.
